A busy season with the Canvey Island Youth FC Under 14s!

You may remember that Urban is a keen sponsor of Canvey Island Youth FC’s Under 14 squad. Our MD, Andy Gell, has been working hard to coach the lads for a successful season, and we’ve supported the team in a variety of other ways, including sponsoring the team’s kits.

This year, the squad has had a busy and eventful time with plenty of ups and downs. Key highlights include:

• Team members getting the opportunity to be ball boys at Southend United FC’s last game of the season
• Getting through to two finals, only to lose one on penalties and the other with the last kick in the game
• Finishing third in the second tournament of the season, missing out by only one point

Unfortunately, we did have one mishap when a boy in an opposing team fell after a fair challenge and broke his arm. So, to cheer him up, our squad’s parents chipped in £230 and bought him a gift treat hamper.

The boy turned out to be the son of the other team’s manager. He was really touched by our efforts and posted the following on Facebook:

“I don’t post very often, but I just had to share this because I was honestly blown away by the kindness and compassion from the opposing team. Our last game of the season was against Canvey Island U14 Blues, managed by Andy Gell. Sadly, my son ended up breaking his arm at the very end of the game, and I had to rush him to the hospital. A few days later, Andy reached out to check how my son was doing and said that he and the club were thinking of him and even put together a little gift to cheer him up. He showed up with a big hamper full of treats, and honestly, we couldn’t believe how generous it was! It’s so awesome to be part of a grassroots football community that cares about the boys and girls, not just about winning.”
