Helping Overbury to boost performance, health & safety

Recently, our Managing Director Andy Gell took part in a subcontractor workshop, hosted by Overbury.

Overbury, one of our key clients, invited 17 subcontractors to take part. The aim was to have open conversations and debates, allowing us to work together to further improve both health & safety and quality performance.

As a result of the workshop, we agreed to collaboratively put three things into action.

The first two were designed to foster healthy competition between subcontractors, helping to push up quality. Overbury used our feedback to develop an award structure for subcontractors, along with an associate league table. These have been trialled since early May and we’re looking forward to helping to evaluate them in October.

The third action has been to ramp up efforts to support operatives’ mental health. Overbury supplied all subcontractors with details of its employee assistance programme for mental health. This offers a range of help 24/7, from free face-to-face or virtual counselling sessions to a range of online resources. Overbury has since been running on-site campaigns to promote the scheme and is also looking at running more mental health sessions. We have also been offered the opportunity to get our supervisors trained in mental health first aid.

We’re delighted to have worked with Overbury and fellow subcontractors to put these positive changes into action – and we’re looking forward to help drive up standards further in the future.
